Mayor Annise Parker said she and Councilman Ed Gonzalez, whose District H includes the Heights area, plan to form a committee of nearby residents and businesses through which the community can articulate its concerns.

A funny thing happened after Keiji Asakura suggested the creation of a vegetable garden in the middle of the concrete corridor and skyscraper canyon that is downtown Houston.
It actually came to fruition — with a swiftness that stunned the landscape architect and the nonprofit group that shared his vision.

The Federal Transit Administration has given an environmental green light to Metro's planned University light rail line, an 11.3-mile, double-track span that will connect the Hillcroft Transit Center on the city's southwest side with the central University of Houston campus.

Mayor Annise Parker said Wednesday the city of Houston will not be approving a Centerpoint Energy rate increase that would mean a $5.53 a month hike for residents using 1,000 kilowatt hours of energy during that period.
Not acting would mean the rate increase would go into effect Wednesday.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service studied radar, atmospheric conditions and weather fronts to come up with their forecast, but they did not consider Waynesburg's reputation.
July 29 has been rainy in Waynesburg in 111 of the past 135 years.
